Thrifting has become almost therapeutic for me. I never thought I'd see the day when I would be good at it and then voila, the Thrift Gods shone their light upon me. I'm just here to past on the blessings.
Last night, I went live on Instagram to share a mini thrift haul and three thrift tips. Here's a recap of the tips I shared and things that I learned as I became a seasoned thrifter:
1. Don't set yourself up for failure.
Not every trip will be successful. Sometimes I find 10 things. Sometimes I find 2. Sometimes I find 10 things in a size 2 and roll out. It just depends on the day and the items in the store. Don't let that discourage you. Keep going back.
2. Know what you're looking for.
I always have a list that I add to and take away from in my notes on my phone. This helps me keep track of the items that I still haven't found yet and allows me to cross off what I have already purchased. Don't go in shouting from the rooftops, "I'm just looking for a denim jacket and that's all I want!" Keep an open mind about other items too. I'm obsessed with cross body bags at the moment so that's my go-to when I hit the door and grab my cart; but, I make sure to look at clothes and shoes too.
3. If it doesn't fit....you know the rest.
Seriously though. If you see something in a medium and you wear a large don't force it. Remember, it's not H&M or Zara where additional sizes will be available. What's for meant for you will catch your eye. That just means that medium was for someone else. Frustrating I know but that's the way it goes. SN: If it looks like it will fit and it's not necessarily your size don't hesitate to try it on. Looks can be deceiving but use discretion as items are non-refundable.
Bonus: I put together two looks from this haul (pants from previous haul) to show how you can easily pair thrifted items together.
All items (pictured above) that I discussed in last night's live are from my local Goodwill. This post is not sponsored in anyway, that is just my preference. Another local thrift spot here in Jax that I like is called The Thrift Store. Don't be afraid to search your city for different spots to go thrifting. They are all kinds of stores that vary in discounts and merchandise, you never know what you may find!
