When Auntie Tracee released the Tracee Ellis Ross for JC Penney Collection a while back, I knew this red robe coat was coming home to mama.
I marked it in my calendar as a national holiday. I was all set to take off of work and be the first in line. I made a list of everything I wanted and stalked her Insta for sneak peeks and to see how she styled the items herself. I knew if I got nothing else, I was leaving with the red robe coat and matching wide leg trousers. Little did I know that the week prior, I'd fall down the stairs outside my apartment. Abort mission. Houston we have (had) a problem. Luckily, I was able to order online and later make it to the mall on a good foot, hope, and a prayer to try on a few items in hopes that I had ordered the right size.
I will find as many ways as possible to style a piece. I like to get the most out of my wardrobe, whether I spend a lot of money on it or not. Y'all know I"m frugal with a capital T. That's f-r-u-g-a-l-T. I've already worn this robe coat (and matching pants) a number of times. See the set in action here, and the trousers here and here. This time, I wanted to wear just the coat and had the brilliant idea to turn it into a dress. Red is my spirit color. Yes, that's original. Google says it is associated with meanings of love, passion, sexuality, sensitivity, romance, joy, strength, leadership, courage, vigor, willpower, action, vibrance, radiance, and determination. (I took out what didn't apply to me, just in case you're trying to check me.)
The robe coat comes with it's own belt and at the last minute when I was changing I decided not to switch it out for a leopard belt I had as back up. Last minute meaning changing in the car and jumping out as is. #bloggerlife I truly wanted to keep it simple by adding all red everything in one look and a black mini purse and leopard slip-ons in the other. I call this my "I don't really want to wear clothes but I still want to look cute and make a statement" lewk. I think it worked.
P.S. I didn't want to be extra nude so I wore a black bra and high waist shape wear underneath. If you try this look, feel free to wear what you're most comfortable in underneath like full shape wear or a slip dress.
I never thought I'd be the girl that liked to stand out (I mean come on and all red lewk?!) but for extra moments like this I'm here for it. Don't get me wrong, I'm still low key and don't care for attention but I learned to express myself via style and let my clothes be extra. *bloop*
